Williams Racing Academy Driver Zak O’Sullivan will compete in FIA Formula 3 next year with the 2022 Team Champions PREMA Racing. The 17-year-old has just completed an impressive rookie year in the series, achieving two podiums and a pole position.
Zak O’Sullivan took part in his first ever Formula 1 test yesterday at Silverstone Circuit. The career-defining opportunity was given as the principal prize for him winning the prestigious Autosport Young Driver of the Year Award earlier this year.
At the penultimate round of the FIA Formula 3 Championship, Zak O’Sullivan achieved his second podium of his debut season. Despite being the 17-year-old’s first time at the Dutch circuit, he was able to place his #26 Carlin machine into the podium positions in Saturday’s Sprint Race.
This weekend’s Hungarian GP saw 17-year-old ace Zak O’Sullivan climb from P22 to P4 in Sunday’s F3 Feature Race. The Williams Racing Academy driver pitted for slick tyres just seven laps from the end, re-joining way outside of the Top 20 before storming through the field to cross the line in 4th.
In a weekend scattered with downpours and sunshine, Zak O’Sullivan impressed with strong Qualifying pace and a P6 race finish, demonstrating good team progress following Bahrain and the in-season tests.
FIA Formula 3 resumed its test programme last week, travelling to Barcelona for another two-day visit – the last in-season sessions of 2022. For Zak and the Carlin team, this Easter weekend event provided an opportunity to test various set-ups ahead of the upcoming race weekends.
The first of the two official FIA F3 in-season tests took place in Jerez, Spain, concluding Wednesday evening. Zak and the Carlin team saw some real progression, with the AMABA award winner finishing the Wednesday morning session in P2.
